Who decides what counts as evidence, what becomes “history,” and what is compressed into silence?
“saepius ad laudem atque virtutem naturam sine doctrina quam sine natura valuisse doctrinam.”
— Cicero
The Global Narrative Initiative (GNI 10) is an international youth-led research collective founded by Sophie Kehan Chen (Ymbetin House). We are driven by a core question:
Across history and cultures, whose stories are remembered—and whose are left out?
We approach narrative not merely as a retelling of events but as infrastructure: a system that shapes memory, identity, and power. Our scholars work span across continents to examine how narratives are constructed, contested, and silenced.
In Pro Archia, Cicero defends the litterae, not as ornament, but as a civic and ethical practice that shapes what can be remembered, recorded, and carried across time. We take that claim seriously: narrative is never “just storytelling,” but a structure of access, legitimacy, and public language. GNI 10 is more than a research program. It is a growing community of young thinkers committed to a more honest and inclusive telling of our world.
Deconstruct
Deconstruct Dominant Narratives:
We examine the systems that shape
memory, power, and identity to
understand how certain stories are built
—and others silenced.
Rebuild
Rebuild with Integrity: We don't speak
for others. We rebuild narratives with
ethical clarity, ensuring voices enter
history with accuracy and respect.
Recover
Recover Excluded Experiences: We
move beyond official archives to find
lived experiences and hidden
testimonies often left out of the
historical record.
